Thistle?

I was running last week and saw this weed and thought the bloom was beautiful. Does anyone know what it is? Just curious.

  1. I think this is a dandelion--not something that you would want in your container garden or yard! My husband uses "Weed and Feed" in April.

  2. Appears to be a thisle. Pretty much a noxious weed.

  4. Me either! The flower part is beautiful. Maybe we could scientifically alter the stem to be prettier...

  5. Kathy, I agree that weed and seed would be a good idea in yards with weeds to help keep things like this from popping up in the middle of your yard. As pretty as the bloom is, every part of the flower is a small seed. When the bloom dries out and the parts of the flower blow away, a new weed just like this will pop up.

  6. It looks very desert-esque, like a cactus flower. I think weeds get a bad rep.
